Titled the "Experimental Type" project, we were tasked with creating marks using a variety of tools and mediums. The marks had to be incidental. Using the marks we created, we were then required to make words that were legible & evoked the imagery of their meaning.
Out of my marks, I created the words "fibrous" and "slander." I wanted fibrous to stay wispy and eerie looking. Meanwhile, I wanted slander to appear dirty and rotten.
Comments & critiques are always welcome.
Completed in Fall 2016.
"Fibrous" began as many different words before, however they didn't evoke the meaning strongly enough. Previous iterations of "fibrous" can be seen below as well.
"Slander" began as "sickly" and "slaying." I was very eager to use the incidental "s" mark that I had created, so I stuck with the theme of something grungy. There were very subtle changes to slander, including the "a" and editing the grunge to enhance readability.
The marks that I created and used can be found below. They were created with a variety of materials and techniques, using India ink and printmaking ink.
If you would like to use these marks, please feel free to contact me and I can provide you with high quality TIFF files free of charge.
